Mowat family puts on a Van-tastic show at Brighton Speedway

By: Nicole Kleinsteuber

Race fans were treated to an action-packed race card on Saturday night.

The night presented by Anson Construction featured 79 cars including the Gord’s Water Van-tastics, Late Models, Canadian Modifieds, Thunder Stocks and 4-Cylinders.

Mowat Motors to 3rd Victory

No. 7 Anthony Rinaldi and No. 46 Brandon Mowat led a field of 11 Vanderlaan Building Product Late Models to green in the 30-lap main event. A caution quickly slowed the pace on lap 4. On the restart Mowat muscled into the lead on the outside coming down the backshoot. Mowat was hooked up on the outside as No. 5 Steve Baldwin and No. 151 Brian McDonald tried to reel him in. When the checkers fell, Mowat crossed the line first for the third time this season with Baldwin in second. McDonald took home third, No. 11 Kyle Sopaz fourth and No. Caley Weese fifth.

Mowat Makes it Rain Checkers

A heat win earned No. 40 Ron Wadforth pole position for the Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modified 25-lap feature. The points leader and reigning champ met his match in No. 2 Leslie Mowat. On lap 3 she charged into the lead on the inside where she stayed glued as Wadforth tried with everything he had to catch her. The pair went wheel-to-wheel in an exhilarating chase for victory. Mowat was relentless in her pursuit for her first season win for 22-laps. She parked it in the Empey Tire victory lane with Wadforth runner-up. No. 1 Shawn Gregory moved from eighth to finish third. No. 32 Doug O’Blenis placed fourth and No. 50 Dylan Boyle fifth.

6 Wins for French

It only took No. 0 Tyler French two laps to move from fourth into first in the Brighton Automotive Thunder Stock 20-lap main. He used the outside to his advantage and took off. No. 10 Carter Rhodes and No. 26 Brock Gregory proved to be his toughest contenders of the night. French flew to victory lane picking up his sixth season win with Rhodes in second and Gregory third. No. 72 Doug Anderson was fourth and No. 16 Kaitlyn O’Blenis fifth.

Checkers Fly for Fletcher Again

Polesitter No. 10 Travis “the Hammer” McLean looked like he was well on his way to scoring his second season win in the Bill’s Johns 4-Cylinders 15-lap feature. He was hooked up for 8 laps as No. 42 Aidan Fletcher fought to catch him. On a restart, Fletcher pushed hard on the outside to scoop up the point. Fletcher was flawless as No. 20 Cody Sager challenged for the lead. Fletcher went on to the winner’s circle for the third time this season with Sager in second. No. 22 Tyson Gregory was third, No. 1 Coleson Gregory fourth and No. 83 Carlee Gilkes fifth.

Delbianco is Van-tastic

No. 07 Megan Golden and No. 19 Autumn MacGregor led 15 minivans to the green flag in a wild 15-lap affair. On lap 2, No. 69 Eric Delbianco and his passenger Spencer Howard jumped out into the lead on the inside of turn 4. Delbianco was fast and furious as he charged to victory lane with No. 4x Tom Grant hot on his heels. No. 666 Mike Perry placed third, No. 95 Chris Lammle fourth and No. Golden fifth.
