The First Points night of the season on the little oval

Thursday Night Thunder back in action on June 11th as the Brighton Speedway Kart Klub fired up for an exciting night of action on the little oval – 2026 racing season ready to go.  Practice and qualifying races were completed and the lineups for the nights feature as spectators filled the infield grandstands.

Box Stock 1 first up to the line, split into 2 feature lineups on the night.  #11 Kane McBride and #88 Ryker Ostrom on the front row of feature #1, starter Trevyn McCrills with green in the air as the 4 kart pack rolls down the front stretch.  Hard charger #11jr Max Sopaz wasted little time threading the needle and slipping into the top spot over McBride as they completed lap 1.  A very good 10 laps for the 5 and 6 year old rookies, nice smooth laps and no cautions, up front it was all #11jr – Max had the throttle control figured out this week and kept the nose clean, Sopaz Racing #ParkedIt in victory lane.  2nd place to the Metalcraft Kustoms #11 Kane McBride, 3rd #88 Ryker Ostrom and 4th #95 Jackson Bosma.  Feature #2 had Rowan Rosborough in the #36 and Carter Phillips in the #07 keeping it lined up, Rosborough with the setup on the night, the Jones Automotive sponsored ride was hooked on the cushion for the 10 lap event.  Phillips picked up some speed over last weeks opener, but not quite enough to catch the #36 – Rowan Rosborough gets the checkers, Carter Phillips 2nd, #48 Emerson Clarke and #57 Libby Sandercock rounding the running order in another green to checkers event.

9 Rookie 1 division karts prepped and ready for some speed – Marks Heating and Cooling #92 Race Turner and BaldwinKartParts.ca #05 Liam Baldwin charging out of the gate for 10 laps.  Turner to the lead off the bottom with Baldwin following suit as the pair put a little distance on 3rd place #7 Carter VanDenBeukel and the rest of the field.  A pretty quick event saw most of the drivers using up the bite down low, looking for a little more speed then the kart infront of them.  As laps clicked off Turner reeled in on lapped traffic and Baldwin was able to close the gap, 3 to go, 2 to go, a little closer, white flag out as the Turner made the choice to stay hard on the bottom as Baldwin looked for an opening – #92 Race Turner with the W, Liam Baldwin settled for 2nd, #4 Kason Sager made it from 5th to finish up 3rd.  Just off the podium Carter VanDenBeukel in 4th, #23 Austin McBride, #01 Keely Patterson, #39 Lucas Wannamaker, #68 Gunner Ellis and #44 Nora Grant, 5th through 9th.

Box Stock 2 had 8 karts rollin’ out with #17 Keaton Chatten and #12 Emmett Ferguson down the backstretch and lightin’ it up out of corner 4.  Chatten was ready, picking up good bite on the low side and moving to the top spot as Ferguson shuffled into line and caught the draft.  The pair put a little space on the pack until a string of yellow flags slowed the pace and boxed them all back up.  Chatten was good on the long green flag runs, Ferguson could keep within a couple kart lengths but that was all, hardcharger #41 Hudson VanDyk threw his hat in the ring for a chance at checkers as he caught the draft of the leading pair after starting back in the 7th position.  Smooth and steady – #17 Keaton Chatten taking the win back to Roslin, #12 Emmett Ferguson sailed through for 2nd, Hudson VanDyk ended the run up the tower in 3rd, #8 Hudson MacMullen 4th, #7 Reese Kerr 5th, #22 Jackson Gregory 6th, #100 Bauer Cochrane 7th and #10 Abel Kiltz in 8th.

#88 Jase Fargey, #91 Kara Veenstra, #37 Ella Wannamaker and #13 Vayda Dayton, ready for 10 roun-d-rounds around the little oval in the Rookie 2 feature.  Green flag out – hard on the Go Pedal – Kara Veenstra in the SV Plumbing #91 off the top, charging down off the banking and into the lead, pole sitter Jase Fargey on the back bumper as they rolled through corner 1 and 2.  Veenstra throwing caution to the wind – chose to run the high side carrying great speed as Fargey stuck it down low, #91 atop the scoring tower.  Halfway flags in the air and Veenstra slipped, spinning the tires off corner 4 on a slick racetrack – Fargey jumped at the chance and picked up the top spot, from there on out it was all 88 – Jase Fargey put it on lock and cruised to the checkers, Veenstra held on to 2nd, Ella Wannamaker made the podium in 3rd, Vayda Dayton 4th.

Junior Sportsman 2 next up – 9 karts made the call on the night – Pontello Motorsports #29 Lily Walters and Jase’s Firewood #101 Jase Patterson up front.  Walters with the jump on the low side hard left into corner 1 with Patterson throwing a rope out to keep up as the rest of the field shuffled into form.  A smooth 10 lap event with only 1 caution flag flown, Walters had the setup for the black slick track, hitting her marks and keeping the kart rolling – Patterson tried to keep within striking distance, but the #29 had the glitter power turned up to 10.  Lily Walters picked up the win, Patterson 2nd, #15 Charlotte DeWal with a strong run coming home 3rd, #10ax Alyssa Nolasco and #48 Knoxin Wells battled it out for 4th and 5th,  #11 Bentley Fulton, #41 Peyton Lambert, #10 Ayden Gordon and #77 Max VanDyk thundered through 6th through 9th.

Stock Lite to the line – 8 karts ready for an all out slugfest – #11g Teegan Grosse and #70 Finley Mahoney holding everyone in check until green out of corner 4.  Grosse to the lead off the hop, Mahoney in the draft and #19 Bentley Davidson in 3rd as everyone battled for the fast bottom lane.  2 laps in and the action was heating up, new leader Finley Mahoney caught the inside of Grosse and last weeks winner #01 Blake Gregory put it into 2nd momentarily.   Heavy competition in the 15 lap main event with the #70 Wuis Brothers Construction ride atop the scoring tower, from 2nd on down it was anybody’s race – Grosse, Davidson, Gregory, all mixing it up, Tate Black climbed his way up from a 6th starting spot putting the #7 in the middle of the action.  Checkers out – Finley Mahoney holding them off for the big win, Bentley Davidson stuck it down low for 2nd, Teegan Grosse 3rd, Tate Black 4th, 5th to Kaden VanGemeren in the #93.  Blake Gregory, #10 Hanna Merry and #18 Sterling Bent finished the running order.
One week off and then back at it – Thursday June 25th the Brighton Speedway Kart Klub will return to the little oval – come check out the stars of tomorrow for yourself.
