An exciting night of kart racing action as the Brighton Speedway Kart Klub hit the track again, a great turnout with 49 karts packing the pit area and prepping for action on the little track. Hotlaps and heat races were completed as the stage was set for feature racing action.
Hailing out of Trenton #57 Libby Sandercock and Stirling native #07 Carter Phillips stacked up the field for the Box Stock 1 Feature #1, hot off a win last week the Farmer’s Daughter Sub Shoppe sponsored #07 – Phillips was first to the gas and the first corner with Sandercock keeping pace as they rolled on to the backstretch. Phillips looked to be the kart to beat as he kept a 5 kart advantage over the #57 machine and a pair of #11’s – in an all out slugfest for the 3rd and final podium spot, trading paint and positions #11 Kane McBride and #11jr Max Sopaz mixing it up as the laps clicked off. A late race caution slowed the action and reset the field for a final shootout – green flag out and Sandercock with the jump, throwing it to the wall, right foot down, holding on – tip toeing in the tulips all the way around to pickup the checkers, the mini #57 Libby Sandercock with the win, #11jr Max Sopaz drove it to 2nd, #88 Ryker Ostrom on the podium for 3rd, Kane McBride and Carter Phillips 4th and 5th respectively losing grip late race after both had great handling karts early.
Box Stock 1 Feature #2 up next with #48 Emerson Clarke of Trenton and #8jr Karson Connell hauling from Peterborough on the front row – green flag out and hammer down. Clarke with the hot foot put the #48 in the top spot with last weeks winner #36 Rowan Rosborough sliding through under Connell to catch the draft of the #48 as they completed lap 1 of 10. Clarke had a good setup but Rosborough had better – reeling in the #48 of Clarke and sliding through – Rosborough in familiar territory putting the #36 in clean air and setting the cruise control as the laps counted down. Within striking distance, but not quite enough – Emerson Clarke put down some good laps but in the end it was that fast #36 in victory lane – Rowan Rosborough with another W on the season, Clarke in the runner up spot, #95 Jackson Bosma getting a podium finish and #8jr Karson Connell struggled to find grip all night, ended up 4th.
Rookie 1 division with 9 karts making the call – #44n Nora Grant and #39 Lucas Wannamaker rolling off of corner 4 and down the front stretch – Wannamaker to the lead with karts behind him shuffling for positions, 2 and 3 wide action kept fans on the edge of the seats all race long. Wannamaker tried to keep his #39 straight and up front as hard chargers #05 Liam Baldwin and #92 Race Turner picked off karts, made gains and turned up the heat on the race leader – Turner to the lead at the halfway mark. From here on out it was all #92 upfront in the Ideal Lawn Care sponsored ride, 2nd place was a battle with multiple drivers taking a shot at the runner up spot – notable attempts to secure the 2 spot by #05 Baldwin, #01 Keely Patterson, #68 Gunner Ellis and #4 Kason Sager. As the dust settled and the checkers flew – Race Turner putting the gas pedal on lock, back to back wins for #92, #4 Kason Sager able to drive it to the scales in 2nd surviving mid-race action, #68 Gunner Ellis fine tuned the line on the high side and slid home in 3rd, #7 Carter VanDenBeukel 4th, 5th to the #05 Liam Baldwin. #23 Austin McBride, #39 Lucas Wannamaker, #01 Keely Patterson and #44n Nora Grant, 6th through 9th.
8 Box Stock 2 drivers ready for 10 laps of action – CDS sponsored #17 Keaton Chatten and Seamless Exteriors #10 Abel Kiltz winding it up, Chatten with the bite off the bottom and #17 atop the scoring tower, 3rd place starter #7 Reese Kerr through out a line and followed through for the 2 spot over Kiltz as they thundered down the backstretch. Multiple restarts due to a slick track had Chatten on his toes to keep the #17 in clean air, as last weeks winner #12 Emmett Ferguson picked his way through the crowd from 6th to 2nd the laps clicked off and time ran short – white flag out – Ferguson now at the back bumper of Chatten as they ran it down into corner 1. Hard onto the backstretch lapped karts in view – Chatten hesitates for a second to plan a move – Ferguson doesn’t lift – thread through a needle and #12 to the top spot out of corner 4. Keeping the win streak alive #12 Emmett Ferguson with the win, Keaton Chatten 2nd in a nearly flawless race missing out by a half lap, #8 Hudson MacMullen in 3rd, #7 Reese Kerr, #41 Hudson VanDyk, #22 Jackson Gregory, #100 Bauer Cochrane and #10 Abel Kiltz 5th through 9th.
#13 Vayda Dayton and #86 Sawyer McFadden on the front row for the Rookie 2 feature event. Dayton with the run off the bottom to the lead and 3rd place starter #88 Jase Fargey catching the draft and sliding through under McFadden, Dayton and Fargey in the clean air put a little distance on the group behind as they battled it out for 3rd on back. Vayda Dayton keeping a clean inside line in the DTD Contracting #13 as Fargey rolled the top, lap after lap Fargey making gains on the outside pulling even with the race leader at the halfway point – drag race down the frontstretch – scoring tower change – #88 to the top spot. Fargey had the kart to beat from here on out as Jase put the Able Mechanical sponsored ride on a rail, lap after lap, hitting marks and making time – Jase Fargey with a convincing win, #13 Vayda Dayton with a season high 2nd place, #37 Ella Wannamaker making it exciting and bringing in a 3rd place, #86 Sawyer McFadden and #91 Kara Veenstra finished the running order.
Junior Sportsman 2 with #51 Cole Cousineau and #48 Knoxin Wells first off the grid with 8 karts starting – Green flag out – Cousineau on the bottom and into the lead with the Madoc Rocket hot on his heels as they rolled out onto the backstretch. Only a few yellows slowed the pace of this fast group of young drivers – the top 3 put a little space on the rest as Cousineau, Wells and #101 Jase Patterson put down some quick times as laps counted down. Like a ride a the county fair evenly spaced and smooth – round and round Cole Cousineau in the Cozy Home Heating #51 put the gas pedal on lock and let the horses run all the way to victory lane, Knoxin Wells pulled out a 2nd in the Brighton Tire #48, Jase Patterson cruised to 3rd. #15 Charlotte DeWal 4th, #77 Max VanDyk 5th, #41 Peyton Lambert 6th, #11 Bentley Fulton, #10ax Alyssa Nolasco and #10 Ayden Gordon finished the running order.
Junior Restricted under the lights for the Thursday Night Thunder final event on the night – #7 Tate Black and #70 Finley Mahoney keeping it tight as they rolled out of corner 4 to the green flag. Black hooked the inside tight and put the #7 atop the scoring tower as points leader Mahoney left high and dry on the outside fought to get back to the fast inside rail – Blake Gregory, Teegan Grosse and Chase White all finding grip down low and trying to keep up with the fast #7 up front. Halfway sticks in the air – Black still sitting in the top spot, #01 Gregory 2nd and #11 Grosse waiting for a chance as the top 5 karts put some distance on the pack. Only a few yellows slowed the pace but didn’t change the leaderboard except for a minor miscalculation on navigation put the #01 of Gregory to the back of the pack with only a handful of laps left missing out on his chance for a podium shot. Green to checkers and uncontested – Tate Black and the ShowTime Detailing race team had it setup just right to put the big trophy on the mantle – #7 with the win, #11 Teegan Grosse and #72 Chase White to the scales in 2nd and 3rd. After that it was Finley Mahoney, #19 Bentley Davidson, #47 Colton White, #10 Hanna Merry, #01 Blake Gregory and #93 Kaden VanGemeren finishing the running order in a fast paced event.
