Rain Cuts the Night Short at Brighton Speedway

By Carlin Bedore

The Behan Construction night at the races was met with partial success. A day of overcast skies had everyone uncertain about how much racing Brighton Speedway could get in before the rain started. Luckily, the Vanderlaan Building Products Northeast Late Model Alliance division, the Bill’s Johns Mini Stocks, and the Quinte Septic Stingers got their feature races in. Unfortunately, the Brighton Automotive Thunder Stocks and Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds were unable to complete their feature races before Mother Nature sealed the fate of the night.

Sandercock Books it to Victory Lane

The Northeast Late Model Alliance Feature race began with No.89 Austin King on the pole, No.46 Brandon Mowat in second, No.3 Nathan Rinaldi in third, No.41 Ryan Lambert in fourth, and No.57 Charlie Sandercock in fifth.

The field went green, and King was off to a great start, holding the pole position. Behind him, Mowat and Rinaldi battled for second while Sandercock attempted to pass them both. Halfway through the race, Mowat was able to take over the top spot, followed by King and Sandercock. Rinaldi battled with Lambert for fourth position but could not keep it.

Lap twenty-four saw Sandercock make his move for first position. With only six laps to go, there was not enough time for Mowat to take back the lead.

Sandercock crossed the finish line first, followed by Mowat, King, Sopaz, and Rinaldi.

Gregorys Battle it out Once Again

The 15-lap Bill’s Johns Mini Stock Feature was led to green by No.67 Joshua Whitney. Behind him were No.37 AJ Peters, No.22 Keith Dunk, No.91 Jack Veenstra, and No.2 Trevyn McCrillis.

The Mini Stocks fired, and K. Gregory jumped out first from his seventh starting position! Peters continued to battle with Veenstra for second while Whitney fell back into the sixth position.

Halfway through the race saw C. Gregory, Peters, and Veenstra go three wide, all fighting for second position. The battle gave T. Gregory a chance to come up from behind so he and C. Gregory could pull into second and third positions.

A caution on lap twelve allowed T. Gregory to pull ahead of K. Gregory on the restart, and it looked like the race was over. But on lap fourteen, two cautions mixed up the restart lineup with C. Gregory at the back of the pack, and a single-file restart allowed K. Gregory to take the win after all.

The results showed K. Gregory claiming the victory followed by T. Gregory in second, Peters in third, McCrillis in fourth, and Veenstra in fifth.

Pickell Takes it Home

The 12-lap Quinte Septic Stinger feature saw No.93 Jorden Pickell start first followed by No.31 Billy O’Hara, No.66 Ray Davies, No.47 Matt Schonauer, and No.17 Ryder Punchard.

The race began with Pickell holding the lead while Schonauer got the jump on O’Hara and Davies and was able to claim second position.

Meanwhile, Lammle made his way up from the sixth starting position to join the top three on lap three.

On the last lap, Storey passed Lammle for third. Pickell crossed the checkers first, followed by Schonauer, Storey, Lammle, and Cross.
