Final Points Night and the Danny Reid Memorial at Brighton Speedway
By Carlin Bedore
Saturday, September 12th was an action-packed night at Brighton Speedway. Four classes raced for their final points for the season, and champions were determined. The Danny Reid Memorial 50-lap Canadian Modified race saw tons of excitement, and OSCAAR joined the night for their make-up race after a rainout earlier in the season. All this action was presented by QBT Excavating Services.
Danny Reid Memorial Race
The John’s Equipment Danny Reid 50-Lap Memorial Race finished off the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified season. No.11 Dan Ferguson fired first with No.2 Leslie Mowat, No.24 Travis Fox-Connor, No.32 Doug O’Blenis, and No.1 Shawn Gregory behind him.
On the green flag Ferguson gained a good lead over Mowat while O’Blenis passed Fox-Connor for third. Shortly after, Gregory and No.40 Ron Wadforth made the pass as well and took fourth and fifth positions.
Laps ten and eleven saw both Gregory and Wadforth pass Mowat for second and third. Then, lap fifteen saw Wadforth take over first position and lap seventeen saw Gregory take over third. A caution on lap eighteen took out O’Blenis.
Halfway through the race, Wadforth and Gregory began another tense battle with points on the line. No.29 Phil Potts was third, Ferguson in fourth, and No.85 Adam Turner, substituting for Brittany Moon, in fifth.
On lap thirty-five, Potts passed Gregory for second. Then, a restart on lap forty-one allowed Potts to take over first place from Wadforth. Wadforth fought hard to take the lead back, and on lap forty-six he did.
The race concluded with Wadforth taking his first-ever win in the Danny Reid Memorial race. Potts finished second, Turner third, Ferguson fourth, and Gregory fifth. With this big, win Wadforth secured the Canadian Modified 2026 Championship!
A Hard-Fought Thunder Stock Battle
The Brighton Automotive Thunder Stock 20-lap Feature race began with No.74 Mike Lucas on the pole with No.45 Dylan Riley, No.21 Ryan Kimball, No.89 Kolby Ellis, and No.10 Carter Rhodes behind him.
The first ten laps of the feature saw Lucas, Riley, and Kimball battle it out for first position, going three wide through multiple laps. Rhodes and No.26 Brock Gregory followed closely behind the three, each waiting to make a move.
On lap eleven, Gregory passed Riley for third and passed Lucas for second shortly after. Meanwhile, No.0 Tyler French had been making his way through the pack from his eighth starting position throughout the whole race. On lap nineteen, he made his move and took over the lead with Gregory just behind him.
French was able to take his fifth victory of the season with Gregory behind him in second, No.44 Tommy Bailey in third, No.72 Doug Anderson in fourth, and Lucas in fifth.
Gregory had secured the Thunder Stock championship during the Labour Day classic, but with the win and the third-place finish, French and Bailey tied for second.
Booth Took his First Win
The OSCAAR Hot Rods took the track for their August 8th make-up race with No.47T Thomas Wunsch bringing the field to green. Behind him were No.73 Jacob Booth, No.2 Tyler Hawn, No.13 Ryan Cowan, and No.47 Steve Book.
On the green flag, Booth quickly took over first position while Wunsch followed closely behind.
A yellow flag on lap nine saw Wunsch head to the back of the pack, leaving Booth and Book leading the field on the restart. Booth held strong against his competitors and ultimately came out on top.
Booth secured his first win ever, a surprising twist in this series as they generally race on asphalt. Book finished second followed by No.77 Ayden McNicol, Cowan, and No.66 Bobby Cousineau.
Another Gregory Battle
The Bill’s Johns 15-lap Mini Stock Feature began with No.4 Chris Tufford on the pole. No.97 Kyle Gregory started in second, No.2 Trevyn McCrillis in third, No.37 AJ Peeters in fourth, and No.1 Coleson Gregory in fifth.
The field went green, and Tufford headed to the pits immediately, which left points leader Kyle Gregory in the lead. Meanwhile, No.22x Tyson Gregory made his way through the field from his tenth starting position to secure fourth place on lap two.
Lap five saw Tyson Gregory take over the third place from Peeters, and the three-way Gregory battle began.
On lap ten, Coleson Gregory took over the lead and did not look back. Coleson Gregory secured the win followed by Kyle Gregory, Tyson Gregory, McCrillis, and Peeters.
Even with this win, Coleson Gregory came up just shy of forty points in the standings, with Kyle Gregory claiming the Mini Stock 2026 Championship.
Pickell Battled Through the Pack
The final Quinte Septic Stinger race of the season began with No.66 Ray Davies on the pole. No.24 Richard Punchard followed with No.41 Bob Cooney, No.74 R.J. Punchard, and No.47 Matt Schonauer behind him.
The Stingers went green with Davies holding first. Schonauer passed second, third, and fourth on lap two to take over the second spot.
On lap five, Schonauer passed Davies for first while No.93 Jorden Pickell had made his way to third from his seventh starting position.
Later, on lap nine, Pickell took over the first position and held strong through the rest of the race. Pickell finished first with No.17 Ryder Punchard in second, Davies in third, Schonauer in fourth, and Cooney in fifth.
Although Pickell won the race, he still came up ten points short of the championship as No.95c Chris Lammle became the Stinger Champion of 2026.
