For Immediate Release: Brighton Speedway Race Report
The sold-out crowd at Brighton Speedway were on the edge of their seats for an action-packed night featuring the Workman Ok Tire School Busses as well as Vanderlaan Building Products Late Models, Bainer’s Oil Guard Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks and Bill’s Johns Mini Stocks. Nineteen full sized school buses were in the pits and ready to tackle the 1/3rd mile clay oval. LeClair Electric, J Bryant Plumbing, Quinte West Auto and Jack Link’s hosted a night of fast action, rollovers and tons of thrills.
The Workman OK Tire School bus drivers did not wait for the features to turn up the excitement, in heat two when #31 Jason Tehaar would get sideways coming to the initial green flag leaving nowhere for the #98 Kyle Rhebergen to go and when the two collided, Tehaar would barrel roll his freshly painted bus right down the front straight in front of the packed stands. The fifteen-lap feature event started with a four wide salute to the grandstands full of fans. As the field took the green flag, it was the #45 James Seymour taking the early lead. With Seymour breaking away to a full straight away lead, things would get tightened up as the red came out for #8 Cody Juby who was flipped around and on his side in turn two. When the buses went back to green Seymour would jump to the lead again but now, he would have #19 Paul Quick battling for the top spot with him. Quick and Seymour would make contact popping a tire on Seymour’s bus and Quick would suffer mechanical issues. The beneficiary of the contact between the top two runners was #75 Frank Flieler and #77 Bernie Rhebergen as the two would make their way around Seymour. Flieler would get the lead, but Rhebergen was all over him in the final laps. Flieler would hold on for the win followed by Rhebergen, Seymour, #88 Bryan McColl and #29 Jan Steenstra to round out the top 5 positions.
The Brighton Automotive Thunder Stock division saw 23 cars hit the track for the feature event. #17 Jeff Humphries led the full field of cars to green and took the early lead. The race saw a red flag for a roll over on lap 8 as #27 Torri Pope had her wheel dig into the track and cause her to flip over. Safety crews swiftly arrived on scene and Pope was fine. Humphry would remain in the top spot for the remainder of the race taking his first feature flag of the season. #03 Justin Ramsay would finish second followed by #0 Tyler French, #97 Dave Barrett and #9 Josh Black.
The Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model Division with 14 cars and 30 laps, the fast-paced race saw a tight battle early on from pole sitters #05 James Seymour and #11 Kyle Sopaz, for the first fifteen laps when current point leader #5 Steve Balwin would enter the mix and take over the top spot-on lap seventeen. Hard Charger, #3 Nate Rinaldi would make his way from the 19th starting position to 3rd by lap twenty-one and in the closing laps when Baldwin would come up on lapped traffic Sopaz and Rinaldi would start to close in, time would however run out and Baldwin would hold on for his third feature of the season followed by Sopaz, Rinaldi, #41 Ryan Lambert and #46 Brandon Mowat in fifth.
Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modified twenty-five laps, was a caution filled affair in the early laps. Cautions sent many cars to the pits with DNF’s. However current points leader #40 Ron Wadforth would take the lead on lap 7 and not look back picking up his third feature flag of the season, #1 Shawn Gregory would keep the points race tight by finishing in the runner up position, #5 Wally Alderdice, #2 Leslie Mowat and #47 Joe Brosseau would complete the top five.
Bills Johns Mini Stocks would hit the track for their fifteen-lap main event to close out the night. #12 Caleb Severin would take the lead and hold on for his first feature flag of the season. Severin would be followed across the line by #4 Chris Tufford, #25 Lawerence Evenden, #96 Cole Abrams and #54 Tim Moore.
Next up is the Pro Rider Freestyle Motocross exhibition alongside a complete race card featuring the Canadian Modifieds, Thunder Stocks, Mini Stock, Comp 4’s and Stingers.
