For Immediate Release: Brighton Speedway

A sunny day in August seems odd to wish for but Mother Nature was onside for Fan Appreciation at Brighton Speedway Saturday the 19th.  Behan Construction along with McDougall Insurance & Financial Services hosted a full race card after torrential rains had ruined the races the week before.  Fans and Drivers alike were anxious to get back to it and came out in full force during Fan Appreciation. A full straightaway of cars and people remind us that racing is for family and friends to all cheer one another on.

With six classes on the schedule, the Quinte Septic Stingers took the first green flag on the night. No 14 Kevin Mutch started on the poll and led the 12-lap feature to victory.  The hard charger of the race goes to past champion, No 93 Jorden Pickell who started 13th and ended in fourth behind No 99 Alex Woods and No 29 Cody Easton.  Rounding out the top five in this added event on the season, was No 9 Zac MacDonald.

The fifteen lap Bill’s Johns Comp 4 feature event started with 11 competitors, but No 90 Nathan Joseph suffered technical problems and couldn’t take the green.  With No 55 Zach Humphry and No 24 Travis Fox Connor leading the field to start it was No 42 Aidan Fletcher who quickly came out front.  Fletcher led the next 8 laps until No 44 Tommy Bailey began challenging for the lead. Bailey’s drive from his 8th starting position was impressive and his determination would see him take the lead in lap 10 to finish ahead of Fletcher.  Following these two was No 15 Josh Bogaard, No 24 Fox Connor and No 20 Cody Sager.

Thirteen Bainer’s OilGard Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds fired out of turn four with No 1 Shawn Gregory gaining the lead over poll sitter No 2 Leslie Mowat by lap four.  Gregory would hold on to the first position and begin lapping the field by lap 8 out of the 25 to finish.  Behind him Mowat would fend off visiting UMP Modified driver No 07 Curtis King and No 40 Ron Wadforth. By the end of the race only six out of 13 would remain on the lead lap. With Gregory finishing ahead of King, Wadforth, No 41 Justin Ramsay subbing for Corey Halbert and Mowat.

Thirteen seems to be the lucky number on the night as that many competitors took to the field in the Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model 30 lap feature event.  No 33 David Vandertoorn took the field to green followed by No 151 Brian McDonald.  No 46 Brandon Mowat and No 41 Ryan Lambert would battle to the front of the pack as reigning champion and current points leader No 5 Steve Baldwin more than halfway through the race behind the top five.  His perseverance would finally prevail after a caution on lap 17 tightened the field back up.  Baldwin would gain the lead over McDonald on lap 25, only to have lap traffic come into play by lap 29 allowing Mowat to finish in second, McDonald in third, No 3 Nate Rinaldi in fourth and No 11 Kyle Sopaz in fifth.

On a busy night with six classes on the race card, the Bill’s Johns Mini Stock field of 17 four cylinders saw past champion No 18 Carter Rhodes in a back-up car start on the poll.  Having experienced technical issues in his regular ride, Rhodes was off like a shot to begin the race. No 22 Tyson Gregory was quick through the field to contend for the top spot.  On Lap 12 the changeover happened with No 4 Chris Tufford entering the mix and contact with Rhodes sent Tufford to the back of the field and Rhodes to the pits.  Gregory would lose the advantage after the restart to No 12 Caleb Severin would lead the last two laps to the checkered flag. Following Gregory was No 96 Cole Abrams, No 54 Tim Moore and No 72 John South.

The final feature of the night started with 20 cars but mechanical issues before the green flag caused No 0 Tyler French and No 73 Jason Preece to sit out the race.  Current points leader No 03 Justin Ramsay snagged the lead from No 88 Patrick Easton by lap 5 and would survive three re-starts in the top position.  With No 28 Brock Gregory running for Steve Baldwin overtaking No 72 Doug Anderson on lap 15, these three would lead to the checkers followed by Easton and No 9 Josh Black after a 20-lap event to finish off the night.

Up next the excitement keeps coming.  The Late Models travel to the west to Ohsweken Speedway for a Northeast Late Model Alliance Series Race on Friday night.  Saturday night action at Brighton Speedway will see the Gord’s Water Vantastics return, along with Canadian Modifieds, Thunder Stocks, Mini Stocks, Comp 4’s and Stingers all sponsored by Pristine Property Maintenance Limited.  The night will also be hosted by the Kids Race for the Canadian Autism Foundation, an event that was previously scheduled for July 29th.  Adult admission is only $15, and you can purchase your tickets for this Saturday’s event at the gate or online at brightonspeedway.ca.  Front Gates open each Saturday at 5:00 pm.
