Summer has truly begun, with sunny days and dirt track nights, fans, new and old arrived at Brighton Speedway knowing that action was the ticket on Saturday night. With Monster Trucks and a full race program, crowds saw the trucks up close and personal before the night began and anxiously waited for the excitement to begin!
Monster Mayhem
QBT Excavating and Hotch’s Auto Parts hosted a night where Overkill Evolution and Black Stallion smashed everything in sight, leaving throngs of fans screaming for more destruction at Brighton Speedway on Saturday. Driver Mike Vaters Sr. in Black Stallion and Mikey Vaters Jr. in Overkill Evolution thrilled fans, young and old, at the 1/3rd mile clay oval. From riveting leaps over a parked school bus to Overkill’s epic 2-wheel nose stand, the Vater’s Motorsports drivers put on an amazing show for all.
Baldwin Bags Second Win
The Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model feature event saw No. 05 James Seymour with yet another lucky redraw spot and No. 33 David Vandertoorn leading a field of 13 Late Models to green in the 30-lap main event. The pair went door to door in a thriller for 10 laps. Clamped to the outside, Vandertoorn snapped up the top spot coming down the backstretch. He held the point for 10 more laps until No. 5 Steve Baldwin slipped by on the inside coming into turn 2. Baldwin sailed to the winner’s circle for the second time this season with No. 41 Ryan Lambert in second. Vandertoorn earned third, No. 3 Nathan Rinaldi fourth and Seymour fifth.
Anderson Ends Drought
In the Brighton Automotive Thunder Stock event, No. 03 Justin Ramsay and No. 16 Kaitlyn O’Blenis took a full field of 23 Thunder Stocks to the green flag in the 20-lap affair. Ramsay was the car to beat as he rode like the wind, leaving the rest to try and catch him for 12 laps. Fresh off heat wins, No. 72 Doug Anderson and No. 0 Tyler French proved to be his toughest contenders. On a restart, Anderson was smooth coming down the backstretch as he scooped up the lead. Anderson crossed the finish line first, ending a three-year drought. No. 10 Carter Rhodes placed second, Ramsay third, No. 26 Brock Gregory fourth and French fifth.
Gregory Scores Back-to-Back Wins
The Bill’s Johns 4 Cylinder event had No. 22 Tyson Gregory taking only four laps to move up into first from his fifth starting position in the 4-Cylinder 15-lap feature. Riding the cushion down the back stretch, Gregory shot past No. 42 Aidan Fletcher for the lead. Fletcher and No. 10 Travis McLean tried to reel him in, but Gregory was determined to park it. Even as a caution slowed the pace with only two laps to go, Gregory stayed the course. He scored his third win of the season (second in a row). McLean was runner-up, Fletcher third and No. 3 Shawn Knowlton fourth. No. 20 Cody Sager charged from 15th to 5th after he was forced to the back after losing his back bumper.
Lammle Lands 2nd Win
The Quinte Septic Stinger division saw No. 95c Chris Lammle pouncing on the lead on the first lap of the Stinger’s 12-lap main event. He took off and never looked back as he cruised to victory lane for the second time this year. No. 45 Matt Schonauer placed second, No. 18 Brian Cross was third, No. 31 Billy O’Hara fourth and rookie, No. 9 Cooper McKeown fifth.
