Curran captures checkers as 360 Sprints invade Brighton Speedway

By : Nicole Kleinsteuber

The Lawns We Do 360 Sprint Series invaded Brighton Speedway on Saturday night thrilling the crowd with full wing action! With 82 cars dialled in for a thriller night presented by County Tire and Monument Group, the hot summer night was thrilling to see.

Curran takes the Checkers

No. 42W “The Joyceville Jet” Rick Wilson and heat winner No. 31C Dale Curran led a field of 13 sprint cars to green in the 25-lap $3,000 to win event. The Jet took off at the drop of the green flag as Curran tried to reel him in. Lapped traffic slowed the pace allowing Curran to snap up the lead on the outside coming into turn 2 on lap 9. Fellow heat winner No. 15 Ryan Turner sliced and diced his way through lapped traffic to take the second spot. A caution with two laps to go, reset the field but Curran was unstoppable as he and Turner battled to a photo finish. Wilson crossed the line third but was disqualified following a tech inspection. No. 87XS Skyler Evans placed third, No. 70 Baily Heard fourth and No. 77T Tyeller Powless fifth.

Lambert Lands 1st Career Win

No. 41 Ryan Lambert took 13 Vanderlaan Building Product Late Models to green in the 30-lap showdown. Despite multiple cautions Lambert was flawless on every restart as No. 3 Nate Rinaldi muscled into second and No. 46 Brandon Mowat charged from 9th to 3rd trying to catch him. Rinaldi and No. 5 Steve Baldwin came together on the backstretch bringing out the final caution with one lap to go. Lambert parked it, picking up his first late model career victory with Mowat in second. No. 11 Kyle Sopaz was third, No. 151 Brian McDonald fourth and No. 77 Caley Weese fifth.

Tyson Gregory Grabs Lucky #7

Fresh off a heat win, No. 22 Tyson Gregory continued his winning ways in the feature. It only took him three laps to push out into the lead ahead of No. 3 Shawn Knowlton in the 15-lap Bill’s Johns 4-Cylinder affair. A master of his domain, Gregory never relinquished the point, driving to the winner’s circle for the seventh time this year. Knowlton was runner-up, No. 42 Aidan Fletcher third, No. 24 Travis Fox-Connor fourth and No. 37 AJ Peters fifth.

Brock Gregory Goes for #3

A heat win earned No. 26 Brock Gregory pole position in the 20-lap Brighton Automotive main dance. No. 72 Doug Anderson took it three-wide with No. 16 Kaitlyn O’Blenis and No. 10 Carter Rhodes as they hunted Gregory. Anderson was relentless on the cushion as he went door handle to door handle with Gregory. Anderson got too high coming into turn 2 and it pushed  him back two spots. Gregory took off and crossed the line first with Rhodes in second. No. 0 Tyler French placed third, O’Blenis fourth and Anderson fifth.

Pickell Picks up 1st Win

Polesitter No. 9 Cooper McKeown looked like he was well on his way to securing his second Quinte Septic Stinger win. McKeown led all but one of the 12-laps. On the last lap No. 93 Jorden Pickell sailed into the lead and onto victory lane, leaving McKeown to settle for a well earned second. No. 357 Ethan Lord finished third, No. 95C Chris Lammle fourth and No. 17 Ryder Punchard fifth.
