Gregory breaks out the broom for a Saturday night sweep

By : Nicole Kleinsteuber

Canadian Modified driver Shawn Gregory was a force to be reckoned with capturing two checkered flags at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night.

The action-packed night presented by Coca-Cola saw 71 cars dialed in with the Late Models, Canadian Modifieds, Thunder Stocks and 4-Cylinders.

The Kart Klub was also in the house and treated race fans to a pair of thrilling demonstrations on the kart track.

Gregory Grabs Double Wins

No. 1 Shawn Gregory was quick to pounce on the lead from his second starting position in the 25-lap Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modified feature. With a new motor under the hood, Gregory put it to the test and snapped up the point on the high side coming down the back stretch on the lead lap. Despite multiple cautions, Gregory never lost his cool and rode to victory lane with No. 40 Ron Wadforth in second. No. 32 Doug O’Blenis was third, No. 25 Greg Belyea fourth and No. 2 Leslie Mowat fifth.

In the second 25-lap feature of the night, a make up race from the weekend before, Gregory took the lead on lap 4 coming across the flag stand. Glued to the cushion, Gregory took off. Mowat proved to be his toughest contender of the night, battling hard on the inside. Determined to sweep the night, Gregory flew to the winner’s circle with Mowat following. No. 50 Dylan Boyle placed third, O’Blenis fourth and Belyea fifth.

Baldwin Brings Home 3rd Victory

From his second starting position No. 57 Charlie Sandercock scored the top spot on the lead lap of the Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model 30-lap showdown. For half of the race Sandercock was hooked up on the outside with No. 05 James Seymour and No. 5 Steve Baldwin trying to reel him in. Sandercock and Baldwin went wheel to wheel in an exhilarating chase for checkers. Baldwin pushed to the lead from the inside on lap 16 and never looked back picking up his third season victory leaving Sandercock to settle for second. No. 46 Brandon Mowat was third, No. 151 Brian McDonald fourth and Seymour fifth.

Five For French

No. 72 Doug O’Blenis and No. 0 Tyler French led a field of 22 Brighton Automotive Thunder Stocks to green in the 20-lap feature. Anderson was solid for the first six laps as he held French off. Determined to score his fifth season win, French cruised into the lead on the outside on lap 7. The pair waged an epic battle through lapped traffic. When the checkers fell, French was victorious with Anderson runner-up. No. 26 Brock Gregory finished third, No. 10 Carter Rhodes fourth and No. 18 Kyle Anderson fifth.

Sager Scores 1st Season Win

No. 20 Cody Sager took 17 Bill’s Johns 4-Cylinders to the green flag in the 15-lap affair. Sager was unstoppable as No. 24x Devon Kippen, No. 42 Aidan Fletcher and No. 22 Tyson Gregory tried to catch him. Sager led all 15 laps to the finish followed by Kippen, Fletcher, Gregory, and No. 3 Shawn Knowlton.
