Motocross riders perform heart-stopping stunts at Brighton Speedway

By: Nicole Kleinsteuber

The atmosphere was charged with excitement at Brighton Speedway on Saturday night.

As fans filled the stands, their eager anticipation was palpable for the Prorider Freestyle MX stunt show. When the dirt bikes roared to life and launched into the sky, they soared an incredible 70 feet through the air, performing death-defying acrobatics that took everyone’s breath away.

Riders twisted and turned, executing flawless backflips mid-air, their movements a dance of grace and skill.

JR Wazny and Jarrett Pronk had fans screaming for more as they delivered three unforgettable, all-out adrenaline-packed spectacles presented by Electro Cables and Campbellford Chrysler. They kicked it old school, performing heart-stopping freestyle tricks from back in the day and new stunts including the Kiss of Death, Superman, The Stripper and No Hander Lander. Fans were also treated to 69 stock cars dialing in for stellar battles on the ⅓ mile clay oval.

Sandercock Sails to Victory Lane

No. 41 Ryan Lambert and No. 46 Brandon Mowat led a field of 15 Vanderlaan Building Product Late Models to green in a 30-lap showdown. No. 151 Brian McDonald and No. 33 David Vandertoorn got tangled coming into turn 2 which quickly slowed the pace. Both drivers emerged okay but unfortunately it brought Vandertoorn’s night to an end. When the racing resumed Lambert was unstoppable as he held off Mowat. Fresh off a heat win and a Northeast Late Model Alliance feature win the night before at Ohsweken Speedway, No. 57 Charlie Sandercock only needed three laps to charge from eighth into third. Sandercock was all over the track seizing on every opportunity to try and take the lead from Lambert. Sandercock dove deep on the inside coming into turn to snap up the point on lap 17. He sailed to victory lane with hard charger and 10th place starter No. 5 Steve Baldwin in second. Lambert took home a well-earned third, No. 05 James Seymour fourth and Mowat fifth.

Wadforth Wins Again

No. 2 Leslie Mowat and No. 1 Shawn Gregory brought a pack of 16 Bainer’s OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modifieds to green in the 25-lap main. Car troubles forced Mowat to the pits on the lead lap and when the action resumed Gregory took off. He was hooked up on the high side as No. 32 Doug O’Blenis, No. 50 Dylan Boyle and No. 85 Brittany Golden hunted him down. Golden drove hard into turn 2 and collided with the track barriers bringing the race to a halt on lap 3. She emerged from the vehicle uninjured, but her machine was too damaged to continue. On the restart Gregory stayed glued to the cushion as No. 40 Ron Wadforth worked to reel him in. They waged an epic wheel to wheel battle as multiple restarts brought the action to a standstill. With two laps to go Wadforth charged into the lead and picked up his third season win with Gregory in second. Boyle was third, No. 41 Corey Halbert fourth and O’Blenis fifth.

French Victorious Again

Polesitter No. 10 Carter Rhodes took 22 Brighton Automotive Thunder Stocks to green in the 20-lap affair. Carter was impeccable on the inside line as he held off No. 18 Kyle Anderson and No. 26 Brock Gregory. On lap 7, Gregory scored the lead and looked like he had his third season win in the bag. No.0 Tyler French muscled his way up from his ninth starting position and went wheel-to-wheel with Gregory. Side by side the pair put on a thrilling spectacle. Working the high side French forced his way ahead and into the winner’s circle for the third time this year. Gregory took a much deserved second, Rhodes was third, No. 16 Kaitlyn O’Blenis fourth and No. 72 Doug Anderson fifth.

Checkers Fly For Fletcher

Following his heat win, No. 2 Trevyn McCrillis earned pole position in the Bill’s Johns 4-Cylinder 15-lap main event. McCrillis took off and at the drop of the green flag, but he got too low coming out of turn 2 and drove into the infield, allowing No. 10 Travis McLean to scoop up the lead. On a restart, McCrillis slipped into the lead again, but it was short-lived as No. 42JR Adian Fletcher shot into top spot on the inside coming down the back stretch on lap 9. After multiple second and third-place finishes, Fletcher was determined to score his first victory as he flew to the winner’s circle. McCrillis took home a hard-earned second. No. 1 Coleson Gregory placed third, No. 3 Shawn Knowlton fourth and No. 37 AJ Peters fifth.
