Sprints take over Brighton Speedway for the second full night of racing!

By Carlin Bedore

“America’s Race Car” the Empire Super Sprints take over Brighton Speedway joined by the Lawns We Do 360 Sprints for one huge night of racing! With 21 entries in the 360 Sprint Feature, the track was hot for a great night of action. We began with the Thunder Stocks followed by the ESS Sprints, the Canadian Modifieds, the Late Models, and the last feature to round out the night was the Mini Stocks.

Thunder Stock Feature

The Thunder Stock Feature began with the No. 09T Garren Taylor on the poll, to his right-side No. 0 Tyler French. Starting in third position No. 89 Kolby Ellis, in fourth No. 10 Carter Rhodes, and in fifth No. 18 Kyle Anderson. The race commenced with No. 09T Garren Taylor holding onto his lead but behind him, the battle for second was fierce. No. 10 Rhodes snagged the second position from No. 0 French as No. 03 Justin Ramsay was climbing his way through traffic from his eighth starting position. With a caution on lap 13, a side-by-side restart was not what leader No. 09T Taylor wanted. Through traffic 03 Ramsay pulled ahead of No. 10 Rhodes and set his sights on the first position. In just three laps No. 03 Ramsay passed No. 09T Taylor for the lead and with three laps to go there was nothing No. 09T Taylor could do. No. 03 Justin Ramsay crossed the finish line first, followed by No. 26 Brock Gregory after slicing through traffic. Finishing third No. 09T Garren Taylor, fourth No. 10 Carter Rhodes, and fifth No. 16 Kaitlyn O’Blenis.

Empire Super Sprint Feature

The Empire Super Sprints fired up with a fantastic four wide show for the fans before lining up to start the feature. We saw No. 79 Jordan Thomas starting on the pole, with No. 38 Zach Sobotka to his outside in second. In third No. 13T Trevor Years, fourth No. 8 Dillon Paddock, and in the fifth starting position No. 90 Matt Turner. On lap one, No. 38 Sobotka quickly took the lead, 79 Thomas followed closely behind. The pair battled it out throughout the race with No. 79 Thomas taking back the lead on lap 10 and holding it for the next 10 laps before No. 38 Sobotka reclaimed it. With only five laps to go No. 79 Thomas did not have enough time and ultimately fell back, allowing No. 28F Davie Franek to pass for second. The race ended with No. 38 Zach Sobotka taking the checkered flag followed by No. 28F Davie Franek in second, No. 79 Jordan Thomas in third, No. 28 Jordan Poirier in fourth, and No. 21T Alex Therrien in fifth.

Canadian Modified

For the third feature of the night the Canadian Modifieds took to the track for their 25-lap showdown. Starting on the pole No. 29 Phil Potts, to his outside No. 212 Adam Whaley. In the second row, starting in third, No. 08 Angie Kirby, fourth No. 1 Shawn Gregory and in fifth No. 25 Greg Belyea. This feature saw No. 1 Gregory dominate the field, taking the lead from his fourth starting position on lap 5 and never looking back. Behind him, No. 212 Whaley fought to keep second but was ultimately passed by No. 2 Leslie Mowat and No. 40 Ron Wadforth on laps 15 and 16. The rest of the race saw No. 40 Wadforth take the second spot and roll with it for the rest of the race. In the end, No. 1 Shawn Gregory took the top spot followed by No. 40 Ron Wadforth, No. 2 Leslie Mowat, No. 29 Phil Pots, and No. 7 Rick Phillips.

Late Model

The Late Model Feature started with No. 41 Ryan Lambert on the pole, the perfect night for him to lead with Lambert Construction sponsoring the event! The rest of the starting top five were No. 5 Steve Baldwin in second, No. 11 Kyle Sopaz in third, No. 3 Nathan Rinaldi in fourth, and No. 46 Brandon Mowat in fifth. In the first half of the race, No. 41 Lambert held a strong lead but when a red flag on lap 15 saw No. 4J Josh Overdulve corkscrew across the front stretch, No. 41 Lambert was taken out of commission as well. The two headed to the pits after safely walking away from the scene. As the race continued, No. 5 Baldwin took the lead while No. 3 Rinaldi made his way to the second position. The race finished with No. 5 Steve Baldwin taking first place, followed by No. 3 Nathan Rinaldi in second, No. 11 Kyle Sopaz in third, No. 46 Brandon Mowat in fourth, and No. 57 Charlie Sandercock in fifth.

Mini Stock

The last feature of the night saw No. 5K Eric Conlin start on the pole followed by No. 17E Emily Wood-Peterson, No. 05K Matt Knowlton, No. 42JR Aidan Fletcher, and No. 1 Coleson Gregory. The feature started with No. 97 Kyle Gregory coming out of nowhere to take second on lap 2. Not long after, he took the lead, and No. 97 Gregory held strong for the rest of the 15-lap feature. The race continued with No. 5K Conlin slipping back while No. 83 Carlee Gilkes and No. 1 Gregory moved forward. The feature finished with No. 97 Kyle Gregory taking the win followed by No. 83 Carlee Gilkes, No. 1 Coleson Gregory, No. 5K Eric Conlin, and No. 37 AJ Peters.
