The Southern Ontario ModLites brought their show back to Brighton Speedway
By Carlin Bedore
June 20th at Brighton Speedway saw the Southern Ontario ModLite Association back once again! With five feature races on the schedule the night was action packed.
Quinte Septic Stinger Feature
The 12-lap Stinger Feature saw No.629 Thomas McGale start on the pole. Starting in the second position No.95c Chris Lammle, in third No.93 Jorden Pickell, in fourth No.18 Brian Cross, and in fifth No.47 Matt Schonauer. The race began with No.95c Lammle quickly taking the lead. No. 18 Cross and No.93 Pickell also passed No.629 McGale on the first lap to take second and third. No.95c Lammle held the first position for the entirety of the race, passing lapped traffic with ease. When the yellow flag came out on lap ten, Pickell had a chance to take over the lead, but No.95c Lammle shut that down quickly and ultimately won the race. Behind No.95 Chris Lammle taking second place was No.93 Jorden Pickell, in third place No.47 Matt Schonauer, in fourth place No.18 Brian Cross, and in fifth place No.20 Cameron Pedersen.
Bainer’s OilGARD Anti-Rust Canadian Modified
Starting on the pole for the Canadian Modified Feature was No.24 Travis Fox-Connor, followed by No.29 Phil Potts in second, No.09 Dan Price in third, No.51 Mike Freeman in fourth, and No.32 Doug O’Blenis in the fifth starting position. Lap number one saw No.29 Potts take the lead. A caution brought the pack side-by-side once again on lap nineteen with No.29 Potts starting on the inside and No.09 Price to his outside. No.1 Gregory and No.40 Wadforth pulled their way through the crowd to take second and third place trading positions through laps while desperately trying to close the gap between them and race leader No.29 Potts. Lap fifteen brought the pack back together for another restart with No.29 Potts and No.40 Wadforth side by side with Potts firing first on the green flag. With 6 laps to go the gap between No.29 Potts and No.40 Wadforth was getting smaller. Ultimately, No.40 Wadforth was able to pass No.29 Potts to get the win. The results saw No. Ron Wadforth take first, No. 29 Phil Potts take second, No.85 Adam Turner take third, No.1 Shawn Gregory take fourth, and No.32 Doug O’Blenis take fifth.
Southern Ontario ModLite Association Feature
The feature race of the night, the ModLites took to the track with No.17 Josh Sliter on the pole. To his outside, No.41 Evan Leonard, followed by No.7S Dillan Sliter, No.26 R.J. Pietz, and No.53 Scott Sherk. The field went green with No.17 Sliter holding the lead while No.26 Pietz took the second spot. Through the first few laps No.41 Leonard fought hard to take the second spot, but No.26 Pietz held him off. Unfortunately, for No.17 Sliter a caution flag flew, and the field was bunched up again with his top spot being threatened by No.26 Pietz. Ultimately, No.17 Josh Sliter was able to finish the race first holding his original position. No.27 Sean Iftody finished in the second spot followed by No.41 Evan Leonard in third, No.26 R.J. Pietz in fourth, and No.5 Kyle Sopaz, a familiar name from the Late Model class at Brighton Speedway finished fifth.
Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model Feature
The Late Model Feature began with No.11 Kyle Sopaz on the pole next to No.57 Charlie Sandercock. Starting in the third position No.5 Steve Baldwin, in fourth No.21 Rich Sanders, and in fifth No.3 Nathan Rinaldi. The 30-lap feature began with No.11 Sopaz trying to hold onto the lead, fending off No.57 Sandercock, but it wasn’t enough. No.57 Sandercock took the lead and flew, creating a large gap between the first and second positions. Even with significant lapped traffic No.57 Sandercock continued to have a large lead throughout the race, leaving the rest of the pack behind. A caution on lap 15 brought all nine cars back together but that did not stop No. 57 Sandercock. He continued to fly on the high side of the track once again and was able to take the checkered flag once again. The race concluded with No.57 Charlie Sandercock in first, No.11 Kyle Sopaz in second, No.5 Steve Baldwin in third, No.41 Ryan Lambert in fourth, and No.46 Brandon Mowat in fifth.
Bill’s Johns Mini Stock Feature
The last feature of the night saw Mini Stock No.22 Keith Dunk start on the pole. On the outside starting in second No.4 Chris Tufford, followed by No.42JR Aidan Fletcher in third, No. 2 Trevyn McCrillis in fourth, and No.1 Coleson Gregory in the fifth starting position. In the first few laps No.22 Dunk gained a comfortable lead, but No.97 Gregory seemed to close that gap. On lap eight, No.22X Gregory battled with No.97 Gregory for that second spot while No.1 Gregory tailed them in the fourth position. Lap eleven saw both 22’s battling it out with No.22X Gregory overtaking No.22 Dunk. In the end, we saw No.22X Tyson Gregory take the win. Finishing in second No.22 Keith Dunk, in third No.97 Kyle Gregory, in fourth No.1 Coleson Gregory, and in fifth No.42JR Aidan Fletcher.
