The sun broke through the clouds for a beautiful Fan Appreciation Night at Brighton Speedway.

By Carlin Bedore

The track was fast for the first Fan Appreciation Night of the season. The night saw race fans take over the track during intermission to meet drivers from all five weekly classes at Brighton Speedway. In the end, the Gregory family dominated the field.

Quinte Septic Stinger Feature

The first Feature of the night saw No. 93 Jorden Pickell start on the pole next to No. 47 Matt Schonauer. In the second row, starting in the third position, No. 41X Adam Flieler and to his outside No. 18 Brian Cross. Rounding out the top five starters was No. 17 Ryder Punchard. The race started with No. 93 Pickle holding onto the lead while No. 95c Chris Lammle and No. 20 Cameron Pedersen made their way up through traffic. By lap 8, No. 95 Lammle had taken over the first position from No. 93 Pickell and No. 20 Pedersen was just behind in third. The battle between the three continued, and on the last lap No. 20 Pedersen managed to take over the top spot to take the win! The top five finishers were No. 20 Cameron Pedersen, No. 95c Chris Lammle, No. 93 Jorden Pickell, No. 41X Adam Flieler, and No. 43 Kevin Mutch.

Bill’s Johns Mini Stock Feature

After Fan Appreciation, the Mini Stocks took to the track for their 15 Lap Feature. No. 357 Ethan Lord led the group to green followed by No. 1 Coleson Gregory, No. 22X Tyson Gregory, No. 2 Trevyn McCrillis, and No. 22 Keith Dunk. On lap one, No. 1 Gregory took the lead and held position for most of the race. Following closely behind No. 22X Gregory was looking for any opportunity to take the spot from No. 1 Gregory. On the second last lap, No. 22X Gregory snuck his way by No. 1 Gregory to take the win. A hard-fought battle between the Gregorys saw No. 22X Tyson Gregory finish first, followed by No. 1 Coleson Gregory in second, No. 2 Trevyn McCrillis in third, No. 37 AJ Peters in fourth, and No. 91 Jack Veenstra in fifth.

Vanderlaan Building Products Late Model Feature

The Late Model fired up with 11 cars lining up to start the 30 lap Feature. The field was led to green by No. 57 Charlie Sandercock starting in first and No. 77 Caley Weese in second. No. 46 Brandon Mowat started in third next to No. 3 Nathan Rinaldi in fourth and in row three No. 11 Kyle Sopaz started in fifth. On lap one No. 77 Weese took an early lead but not for long as No. 57 Sandercock started to fly on lap two to take the lead on lap three. The battle continued but it looked like everyone behind would have to battle for second as No. 57 Sandercock was half a lap ahead of everyone! But when cautions on lap 26 and 29 crushed No. 57 Sandercock’s lead it looked like there could be hope for No. 3 Rinaldi or No. 5 Steve Baldwin to take the lead. Unfortunately for them, No. 57 Sandercock was just too fast and despite the cautions, he took the lead once again to take the checkers on lap 30. The Feature finished with No. 57 Charlie Sandercock taking the win, followed by No. 5 Steve Baldwin, No. 3 Nathan Rinaldi, No. 46 Brandon Mowat, and No. 05 James Seymour.

Brighton Automotive Thunder Stock Feature

The Thunder Stock Feature began with No. 18 Kyle Anderson on the pole. No. 26 Brock Gregory started in second followed by No. 10 Carter Rhodes in third, No. 72 Doug Anderson in fourth, and No. 16 Kaitlyn O’Blenis in fifth. With 26 entries, the packed field of Thunder Stocks went green, and No. 26 Gregory at once took the top spot. The battle for second throughout the race was fierce with No. 72 Anderson, No. 10 Rhodes, and No. 0 Tyler French swapping spots throughout the race. Meanwhile, No. 26 Gregory continued to lead throughout the race and ultimately took the checkered flag. The finish order saw No. 26 Brock Gregory take the win, followed by No. 72 Doug Anderson in second, No. 0 Tyler French in third, No. 16 Kaitlyn O’Blenis in fourth, and No. 19 Cory White in fifth.

Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modified Feature

The final race of the night saw No. 85 Brittany Moon starts in first. To her outside No. 51 Mike Freeman started in second, No. 32 Doug O’Blenis in third, No. 09 Dan Price in fourth, and No. 212 Adam Whaley in fifth. The fight for first was anyone’s game as No. 51 Freeman took it for the first four laps before No. 40 Ron Wadforth took over on lap five. However, an unfortunate flat tire took out No. 40 Wadforth on lap 12 and No. 1 Shawn Gregory rolled up to the top spot for the restart. Once No. 1 Gregory took that spot, he did not look back and rode it all the way to the checkered flag. The race finished with No. 1 Shawn Gregory in first, No. 32 Doug O’Blenis in second, No. 2 Leslie Mowat in third, No. 51 Mike Freeman in fourth, and No. 212 Adam Whaley in fifth.
