Thursday night thunder is back!
After a long break in the action for the Brighton Speedway Kart Klub, Thursday Night Thunder was back on the little oval – with 44 high powered race karts rolling through the back gate, teams prepared their karts and drivers to chase some checkers with their right foot on the floor. As the sun began to sink in the west, heat racing action finished up, intermission track prep session completed and the feature lineups were set.
Box Stock 1 division – split into 2 feature events to minimize chaos with the 5 and 6 year old drivers.
#88 Ryker Ostrom and #07 Carter Phillips up front with #36 Rowan Rosborough and #57 Libby Sandercock all ready to go – green flag up and pedals down. Ostrom found the fast line first as the Bath Ontario native rolled the first 2 or 3 laps in the hot seat, with both Rosborough and Phillips searching for some bite to get through. Halfway mark and Rosborough found the cushion, taking the long way around and putting his Kerr Construction #36 up front with #07 Carter Phillips following suit and using the high side around the #88 of Ostrom. Checkers in the air – #36 Rowan Rosborough with another W on the season, #07 Phillips in a strong 2nd, #88 Ostrom 3rd and #57 Libby Sandercock with a smooth 4th in a green to checkers event.
#95 Jackson Bosma, #48 Emerson Clarke, #8jr Karson Connell and #11jr Max Sopaz lightin’ it up for 10 laps of feature #2 Box Stock 1 racing. Green Green Green – Bosma to the GO Fast pedal first as he hooked the inside line, the #48 of Clarke drove it in deep and tried the cushion and #8jr Connell threaded the needle between the pair – under Clarke and then outside of Bosma, hard on the gas out of corner 2, Karson and the Connell’s Construction #8jr rocket onto the backstretch in the top spot and fresh air. Another green to checkers Box Stock 1 event was what race leader Connell was looking for as he kept it in check and drove straight into victory lane #8jr with the win, #48 Emerson Clarke rolled into 2nd place, #95 Jackson Bosma 3rd and #11jr Max Sopaz 4th after mechanical issues.
#01 Keely Patterson and #7 Carter VanDenBeukel on the front row for the Rookie 1 feature event – 7 karts making the call to the grid. Patterson hard off the bottom made it stick and put the #01 atop the scoring tower, VanDenBeukel shuffled it down and caught the draft, with #05 Liam Baldwin and 5th place starter #92 Race Turner falling in line. An intense action filled race with lots of bumper touches and slideways karts kept the the fans entertained on a hot summer night, 3 or 4 caution flags slowed the action, but Keely Patterson held on strong and kept the Jase’s Firewood sponsored #01 in that #1 spot all the way to the checkered flag, #92 Race Turner locked it down low and came out with a 2nd place finish, hard charger #39 Lucas Wannamaker 3rd from 7th, #68 Gunner Ellis 4th, #05 Liam Baldwin, #7 Carter VanDenBeukel and #4 Kason Sager finishing the running order.
Seamless Exteriors #10 of Abel Kiltz and Harmony Homes #8 Hudson MacMullen squared up and gassed up out of corner 4 with 7 karts ready for the Box Stock 2 feature. Kiltz on the bottom through 1 and 2 with MacMullen keeping pace and looking for a chance as the rest of the pack shuffled for position. McMullen got the chance on the backstretch, but the #8 atop the scoring tower was short lived as 4th place starter Emmett Ferguson slowly picking through karts made it to the back bumper of the MacMullen machine at the halfway point. A nice crossover through 3 and 4 put the F&F Industrial Solutions ride up front and looking to pickup another plaque for the mantle, #12 Emmett Ferguson with the win, #8 Hudson MacMullen in 2nd, 3rd for #17 Keaton Chatten after an exciting last lap on the outside line, #41 Hudson VanDyk narrowly missed the podium in 4th, #10 Abel Kiltz, #22 Jackson Gregory and #100 Bauer Cochrane 5th through 7th.
Rookie 2 division up next with #13 Vayda Dayton and #91 Kara Veenstra taking the green first – 10 laps – 5 karts. Victory Trophy sponsored #37 Ella Wannamaker made quick work as the green flew and moved from her 3rd place starting spot into the lead by the end of lap 1 with Veenstra and Trenton’s Jase Fargey climbing the tower and challenging for the 2 spot. Wannamaker set the cruise control and locked into running smooth, the laps clicked off as #88 Jase Fargey had moved to 2nd and set his eyes on the top spot, closer and closer every lap. Double sticks in the air with Wannamaker leading and Fargey now in the draft, down the frontstretch and into corner 1 – Wannamaker slips slightly off the bottom – Fargey saw the light onto the backstretch – good bite on the low line, put #88 to the front. 1 more roun-d-round and a last chance for Wannamaker to make a charge back, with no success, Jase Fargey with the win, Ella Wannamaker settles for 2nd, Vayda Dayton battled back to 3rd place after mechanical issues early, Kara Veenstra and #86 Sawyer McFadden kept it close coming in at 4th and 5th on the night.
8 fast Junior Sportsman karts thundered out next – #41 Peyton Lambert and #11 Bentley Fulton hard outta 4 – Fulton with the good run off the cushion #11 atop the tower as #10ax Alyssa Nolasco snuck through on the catfish lane under Lambert for the 2 spot. Fulton looked to be holding his own keeping a good distance on Nolasco until the handling went away on the #11 kart, spinning off of corner 2 – #10ax Nolasco – new leader just shy of the halfway point. Multiple caution flags from here on out, a slick track and eager drivers, hard charger #101 Jase Patterson avoided the action and climbed the ladder from his 6th place starting position, sliding through into the lead lap 10 of the 15 lap main event. #101 in the top spot, but Nolasco wasn’t gonna take a 2nd place finish on the long drive back to Odessa, hard to the bottom out of corner 2, pulling even – drag race down the backstretch – #10ax with the advantage into corner 3 and back to the front of the pack. Checkers out – #10ax Alyssa Nolasco winning, #101 Patterson 2nd, Max VanDyk #77 with a podium finish crossing the line 3rd, #41 Peyton Lambert 4th, #15 Charlotte DeWal 5th, #48 Knoxin Wells, #10 Ayden Gorden and #11 Bentley Fulton scored 6th thru 8th.
Stock Lite up next as the sun sets in the west – 9 karts making the call – #10 Hanna Merry and #01 Blake Gregory. Starter Jack Veenstra showing green – Gregory outside, hard left with a crossover and then sliding it through under the Merry #10, on to the backstretch – Gregory, Merry and #7 Tate Black tossing his hat in the ring. Gregory used up the clean air and put a little distance on the 7 kart pack battling for position behind him, a very precise track showed that one mistake could cause heartbreak, everyone fighting for that fast inside line. Just after the halfway flags – Gregory’s Norwood Auto Wreckers #01 still up front, #19 Bentley Davidson made his way to 2nd with last weeks winner #70 Finley Mahoney in 3rd. Smooth and fast Blake Gregory had all the horses in the Gregory Racing stable, untouchable on the night #01 with the win, Campbellford’s Finley Mahoney moved into the 2 spot late in the race but didn’t have enough to catch the leader – 2nd from 7th for the hard charger. #19 Bentley Davidson kept on the podium for 3rd, #11g Teegan Grosse made it exciting and ended up 4th, #7 Tate Black 5th, #10 Hanna Merry, #47 Colton White, #72 Chase White and #93 Kaden VanGemeren 6th – 9th.
