Wingless Warriors Back in Action at Brighton Speedway

By Carlin Bedore

The Ontario Traditional Wingless Sprints fire up at Brighton Speedway for the Simon Pitet Memorial Race. Supporting features include Late Models, Canadian Modifieds, Thunder Stocks, and Mini Stocks.

Dykstra Takes It Home in the No.79 Wingless Sprint Car

Eleven Wingless Sprints flew around the 1/3-mile dirt oval for their feature race of the night. No.26 John Watson started on the pole followed by No.13 Ian Hunter, No.13R Evan Reynolds, No.79 Jacob Dykstra, and No.22 Dale Hunter. On laps one and two, Dykstra made his way to first place, leaving both Hunter and Reynolds in his dust. Later, No.25 Warren Mahoney made his way to the third place, causing Reynolds to fall back two positions by the end of the race. Dykstra secured the win after leading most of the race. Hunter finished second; Mahoney finished third, Connell finished fourth, and Reynolds fifth.

Sopaz Secures His First Victory of the Season

The Late Model 30-lap feature race began with No.11 Kyle Sopaz on the pole followed by No.7 Anthony Rinaldi, No.3 Nathan Rinaldi, No.41 Ryan Lambert, and No.4J Josh Overdulve. The field went green with Sopaz gaining a significant lead while the Rinaldi brothers battled for second. After just twelve laps, No.57 Charlie Sandercock moved into third position, taking it from No.7 Rinaldi. With his brother in fourth, No.3 Rinaldi attempted to close the gap on Sopaz. With Sandercock and No.46 Brandon Mowat now in third and fourth, the pair traded positions while also attempting to pass No.3 Rinaldi. Unfortunately, there was not enough race left for them to make the pass. Sopaz flew by the checkered flags with No.3 Rinaldi, Sandercock, Mowat, and Lambert behind him.

Chaos Ensued and Potts Came Out Victorious

The 25-lap Canadian Modified Feature began with No.25 Greg Belyea on the pole. Behind him were No.7 Rick Phillips, No.54 Tim Moore, No.29 Phil Potts, and No.85 Brittany Moon. Belyea led the field to green with Phillips on his tail. Lap three saw Gregory and Wadforth, the top two points leaders head to the pits. Phillips and Potts challenged Belyea for the lead and in turn four Potts was able to snag the lead from the inside line. Lap fifteen saw No.51 Mike Freeman crash into the catch fence, thankfully walking away from the incident safely. The BSP safety crew went to work and safely got the situation under control. After going green again, the field safely finished the rest of the race without incident. Potts claimed his second victory of the season ahead of Belyea, Mowat, Barrett, and Gregory.

Rhodes Booked it to Victory Lane

The 25-lap Thunder Stock Feature saw twenty-two cars hit the track with No.89 Kolby Ellis and No.10 Carter Rhodes leading them to green with No.26 Brock Gregory, No.0 French, and No.72 Doug Anderson behind them. After the green flag, Rhodes took the lead from Ellis and did not look back. Gregory and Anderson were able to make passes to claim the second and third positions by lap four. However, a caution on lap eight sent Gregory to the back of the pack leaving No.21 Ryan Kimball in second and Anderson in third. Rhodes continued to hold his lead while Anderson attempted to take second from Kimball for the rest of the race. Rhodes claimed the checkered flag followed by Kimball, Anderson, Bailey, and Gregory.

Another Gregory Win

The Mini Stock Feature was led to green by No.97 Kyle Gregory. Behind him were No.22X Tyson Gregory, No.22 Keith Dunk, No.37 AJ Peters, and No.4 Chris Tufford. No.22X Gregory immediately took the lead and held the top spot. Through the halfway point, No.22X Gregory had gained a significant lead over the pack. Meanwhile, Dunk was right on No.97 Gregory’s tail. The race finished with No.22X Gregory taking the win followed by No.97 Gregory, Dunk, Peters, and Lord.
